Afesis is a development non-profit organization based in East London. The organization’s work contributes to strengthening participatory local governance, access to urban land for pro-housing, peacebuilding, and urban safety. Established in 1983. Afesis has always advocated for social justice, pushing barriers to citizen participation in their own development.
About the internship position
in its effort to offer experiential training to young entrants into the social justice sector. Afesis provides internships for at least a year at a time. The interns work on some of the Afesis programs under the supervision of seasoned program-implementing staff. In recruiting interns, Afesis strives to align with its diversity and succession planning goals. The internship is an opportunity for young people who are looking for a career in social justice activism, especially those with a keen interest in local governance, urban safety, and land justice.

Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in the field of development studies, urban planning, political science, or communication is required for this position (a post-graduate degree will be an advantage). A valid driver’s license is also a requirement.
Afesis is recruiting an intern who will be with the organization for a fixed-term period of 11 months, starting on February 1, 2024. Please submit a copy of your CV with at least two contactable references and a written sample of your work (an indication of your writing ability) by no later than December 31, 2023. Should you not hear from us by January 31, 2024, please consider your application unsuccessful.
